ABOUT THE BAND:
Since high school in the DC suburbs, best friends Brian Maverick and Bobby Atoms have been obsessed with rock 'n' roll. They grew their hair out long and scrawled "ZEPPELIN RULES" on their Biology notebooks. Their t-shirts and the walls of their bedrooms were covered with pictures of guitar god rock star superheroes. So it was only right and natural that they go out, buy a couple of Fender guitars, and figure out how to play 'em so they could make some real loud noise of their own.
Playing under dozens of band names, Brian and Bobby cut their teeth doing old 50's and 60's tunes at friends' house parties and school Battle of the Bands. Under the moniker The Dirty Words, they started penning their own chaotic garage-blues-punk anthems with former drummer Andy Graham Minor, but their power trio lineup was missing something -- Brian's kid brother Mick Maverick on the electric lead guitar.
From the second Mick plugged in to jam with the guys on The Stones' "Sympathy For The Devil", they all knew they had something good going on. Renaming themselves for the final time, The Nuclears started electroshocking the DC music scene back to life.
Their fierce live outings and the raw energy of their earliest basement demo tapes earned them the attention of the E-Street Band's Little Steven Van Zandt, and the band ended up playing Little Steven's Underground Garage Battle of the Bands at the Black Cat, where they impressed the likes of Darryl Jenifer (Bad Brains) and Mike Watt (Minutemen) and were named the best rock and roll band in DC.
In late 2006 the group moved to Brooklyn NY. For some time they struggled with keeping a consistent lineup because of drummers coming and going until they answered and ad placed by Danny Mayday, a purple heart winning soldier and veteran drummer living in Queens and looking for a rock group to join. He passed the audition with ease and solidified the present Nuclears lineup. In New York City the band has also developed a following because of their dangerous high energy concerts.
ABOUT THE SESSIONS AT MEGAPLATINUM:
The Sessions at MegaPlatinum is a semi regular affair happening at the MegaPlatinum loft in Brooklyn NY. The project, heavily inspired by the work of the late John Peel, is an attempt to take our favorite bands, put them in a different environment for a few days, push the boundaries of their comfort zone, see what happens, and release whatever comes out of it a few days later in a variety of digital formats online. The goal for 2009 is to host 25 to 30 different bands / sessions at the MegaPlatinum Studio and spread the releases in the most righteous of ways all over the world.
