DESCRIPTION SECTION

Free (released under the GNU General Public License) disk defragment and optimize utility for Windows
2000/2003/XP/Vista/X64. Completely automatic and very easy to use, fast, low overhead, with several
optimization strategies, and can handle floppies and USB disks/sticks. Included are a Windows version,
a commandline version (for scheduling by the task scheduler or for use from administrator scripts),
a screensaver version, a DLL library (for use from programming languages), and versions for Windows X64.

INSTALL SECTION

There is no "setup" or "install" and no configuration file. All you have to do is download the zip and unpack.
It contains the following 3 programs:

JkDefrag.exe
Windows version. This is what most people will use. No installation or configuration necessary,
it's ready to run and will automatically process all the mounted, writable, fixed volumes on your computer.

JkDefragCmd.exe
Commandline version. Specially designed to be run automatically in the background, or from administrator scripts.

JkDefragScreenSaver.scr + JkDefragScreenSaver.exe
Screen saver version. Move (or copy) these two files to the "system32" folder on your harddisk
(usually "c:\Windows\System32\" or "c:\Winnt\System32\"). It will automatically become visible in the list of
screen savers as "JkDefrag screensaver" and can be used just like any other screensaver (right-click somewhere
on your desktop and select Properties/Personalize, then select the Screen Saver tab).

Note: On Vista the screensaver only works with User Account Control turned off
(see Control Panel, User Accounts, Turn User Account Control on or off).
Note: screen savers do not lengthen the life span of CRT and LCD monitors, contrary to popular belief.
It is better to let the monitor be turned off by the Windows energy saving settings.

The Windows version of JkDefrag shows a high-detail map of the harddisk, refreshed 3 times per second.
Bottom-left of the window is the beginning of the harddisk. The colors used are:
Black: empty
Green: regular files, unfragmented
Dark green: spacehogs, unfragmented
Yellow: fragmented
Red: unmovable
White: busy
Pink: MFT reserved zone (NTFS only)
Gray: in use by unknown data.


CHANGES SECTION

Changes in 3.33:
- Fixed a bug in the Windows version that for some users caused the display of
the diskmap to get stuck.
- Fixed a bug in the forced-fill optimization that caused the program to skip
fragments that were left by filling a gap with a part of the fragment.
- If the volumename of a disk cannot be determined then the program will now
fallback to using the mountpoint of a volume to open a handle.
- If the user specifies a short input mask without a wildcard, for example "C:"
or "C:\", then the input mask is rewritten as "C:\*".
- Fixed a bug where the special "DisableDefaults" spacehogs mask only disabled
the masks, but not the "Files bigger than 50 megabytes"" and "Files not
accessed in the last month" criteria.
- Bundled some language-specific SpaceHogs masks into
"?:\\*\\Installshield Installation Information\\*".
- Moved the "Volume ID" message for FAT disks from debug level zero to 6.

Changes in 3.32:
- Fixed a bug in the FAT scanner that caused the program to crash on volume names shorter than 9 characters.
- Simplified the rules that automatically change the mask that selects which disk/folders/files must be processed.
- It now simple prepends and appends an asterisk if there is no asterisk yet.
- Some small changes in the graphics code.
- Fixed a bug in the commandline version that showed zone numbers 0...2, instead of 1...3.

Changes in 3.31:
- Fixed a problem in the Windows version, it now redraws the diskmap when the user changes the size of the window.
- Added special cases to the exclude masks to recognise a drive letter without an asterisk, for example "c", "c:", or "c:\".

Changes in 3.30:
- FAT disks are now analysed by directly reading the FAT from disk. This is a lot faster, and finds more system files.
- Changes to the graphics routines in the Windows and screensaver versions.
- The screen is now updated faster and more efficiently.
- Added the "average begin-end distance" statistic to the report.
- The commandline is now scanned for the "-l" logfile option before anything is written to the logfile.
- Changed the progress counter for the Fixup phase.
- Added a second fixup phase after optimizing "-a 3" to catch files that could not be moved the first time.
- Bugfix for automatic processing of volumes that are mounted on a directory instead of a drive letter.

this program although I know the links posted above may download faster than this Torrent but sharing it is the
best form to other people can know it and maybe use it as the default defragmenter.
