Um mit ihrem krebskranken Sohn Matt näher an der Klinik zu sein, ziehen die Campbells nach Connecticut. Mutter Sara hat ein günstiges Haus gefunden, dass der schlechten finanziellen Lage der Familie entgegen kommt. Kaum eingezogen erfährt die Familie, dass das Haus mit einer dunklen Geschichte aufwartet. Es wurde früher als Bestattungsinstitut genutzt und es kam zu unvorstellbaren Geschehnissen mit schwarzer Magie. Sehr bald beginnt Matt, unheimliche Dinge wahrzunehmen. Die Eltern zweifeln: Liegt es an den starken Medikamenten? Oder doch am Haus? Als Jonah, der Sohn des damaligen Besitzers, plötzlich zurück kehrt, beginnt für die Campbells ein unvorstellbares Grauen.
