"Some Stretching" sums up this set for the Coleman Hawkins Sextet (a pickup group), for it does indeed stretch out on five songs. Hawkins, then 54, was still very much in his prime and he formed an interesting frontline with the fine swing trumpeter Joe Thomas and the distinctive trombonist Vic Dickenson. Joined by the Tommy Flanagan Trio, the three horns all take consistently excellent solos on this fine mainstream session.
