The Biology of Lower Plants on CD-ROM isdeveloped by Professor Dr. M.T.M. Willemse and co-workers of theDepartment of Plant Cytology and Morphology at WageningenUniversity in the Netherlands. The CD-ROM contains an interactiveself-study of Lower Plants, and guides the user through theirfascinating world.This CD-ROM is the result of twenty-five years of education inLower Plants. It is used by biology students in the Netherlands,but is also essential for teachers in this discipline.
The aim of the program is to provide the user with a basicknowledge of lower plants, their form, function and biotope.
The groups of algae, fungi, lichens, mosses and ferns are presented. For each of these groups, the cytology,development, form and function, reproduction, dispersal and their life cycle and biotope is explained by text,illustrations, hundreds of photographs, many animations and a fewvideo films.
Attention is given to the transition from water to land conditionsand to sexual reproduction including the seed ferns and seedplants.
Many questions test the knowledge andinsight of the user. A glossary is also available for anexplanation of the terms used in the program. At the end of eachgroup is a literature list, and links to interesting web-sites arealso given. All makes the CD-ROM extremely suitable forself-study.
