Bloc Party are an English indie rock band. In 2005, the band released their critically acclaimed debut album Silent Alarm. Their second studio album, A Weekend In The City was released on February 5th 2007 in the UK and February 6th in the US. This album deals much more with normal day working life than was addressed on Silent Alarm, drawing themes from the 7th July 2005 London bombings, immigration, drug abuse, Black British lifestyle, homosexuality, and criticism of youth subculture. This is a more lyrically focused, emotionally exposed album which brings with it a more rounded overall sound whilst retaining the raw power of their debut. Includes the single The Prayer.
A Weekend In The City is put together as 11 parts of a story of two days in London, each song based around life in the metropolis. Most effective are Hunting For Witches [a startling expose of the fears of the city's inhabitants since the 2005 bombings], The Prayer [a simple but effective tale of life in the nightclub] and Where Is Home [a black family's reflections after the murder of a young son].
