Arcade Fire is an indie rock band formed in Montreal, Quebec, Canada. The band formed around the husband and wife duo of Win Butler and Regine Chassagne. Starting in mid-2003, the current lineup solidified in late 2003-early 2004, when their first full-length album Funeral was recorded. Arcade Fire is known for its enthralling live performances, as well as its use of a large number of musical instruments. In addition to mainstays guitar, drums, and bass guitar, members play piano, violin, viola, cello, double bass, xylophone, keyboard, French horn, accordion, hurdy gurdy and harp. With several able musicians, Arcade Fire takes most of its instrumental diversity on tour and band members switch instrumental duties throughout their shows.
Neon Bible is Arcade Fire's second full-length album, the follow-up to their breakthrough Funeral. It was released on March 5th 2007 in Europe and on March 6th 2007 in North America. The album makes use of a pipe organ, a hurdy gurdy, a military choir, and a full Hungarian orchestra, among others. Win Butler described the album as sounding "like standing by the ocean at night". According to the booklet that accompanies the release, the title is taken from the John Kennedy Toole novel, The Neon Bible.
