Baldur's Gate is the classic RPG developed by Bioware Studio's Canadian Cousin, Black Isle Studios. The game attempts to be as true as possible to the D&D setting, incorporating a number of the 3rd edition rules.
In plot, you play the character of an orphan raised in Candlekeep by the powerful mage Gorion. The game begins as Gorion realizes his young ward is no longer safe within the walls of Candlekeep, and that he must venture out into the world to discover both who he is and why he is hunted.
The game features a combat system driven by 3rd edition D&D style combat, with a crucial pause button that allows to assign commands to your AI-driven party. Overall, the playability of the game is moderately easy, although spellcasters can prove problematic at every stage in the game. The interface is a bit clunky, but mastery of the shortcut keys, menus, and controls quickly minimizes this problem.
Because Interplay shut down Black Isle Studios in late December 2003, this PC game is safe for upload.
Technical Information: This torrent contains the 3CDs from the Baldur's Gate: Original Saga series packed into a .7z file. The Original Saga includes both the original Baldur's Gate + Tales of the Sword Coast expansion. Because the first CD contains both manuals, I've included only the map and quick reference card downloaded from http://www.replacementdocs.com, as part of the .7z file. Unfortunately, this game is the exception to the "compression always wins" rule, since it was so well-packed onto the original discs. However, compression does save 80MB. I hope you are grateful.
It is important to note that you should not install any patches onto your local installation. According to Bioware's support site, installing patches will actually break the functionality of the game and prompt you for CDs when it should not. This version of the game contains the final patches.
Mount the game using your favorite ISO-mounting utility, and you're off and running. The game is fully Windows XP compatible and will run without the need for any compatibility modes.
