Farrokh Bulsara of Queen - Made in Persia ZARATHUSTRA'S RHTYHM [2006][IMPORT][TEHRAN EXPRESS] preview 2/220px-Fm2.jpg

His parents were from Gujarat in western India, and they were Parsees, Indian followers of Zarathustra, the man-god who is best known to most European non-Parsees for speaking in riddles to Nietzsche. "Body am I entirely and nothing else, and soul is only a word for something about the body," spoke Nietzsche's unbelieving Zarathustra, foreseeing perhaps what sort of performer Freddie would become.

His father, Bomi Bulsara, said that the name is taken from the small Gujarati town in which he was brought up. North of Bombay, south of Ahmedabad: Bulsar, a tiny dot on a huge coast.

When he was seven, he was sent to a boarding school 50 miles from Bombay. He remained there for 10 years. By the end of his time at St Peter's (a private english school). He had become something of a spiv, lounging on a garden bench in dark glasses, being glamorous for the first time. It was at St. Peter's where he learned to play the piano and joined his first band, The Hectics. He remained in India for most of his childhood, living with his grandmother and aunt. He completed his education in India at St. Mary's High School in Mazagon.

As a child, his parents listened to a great deal of Indian music, and one of his early influences was the Bollywood playback singer, Lata Mangeshkar.

Widely considered as one of the greatest vocalists in popular music, He possessed a very distinctive, three octave voice. Although his speaking voice naturally fell in the baritone range, he delivered most songs in the tenor range. Another characteristic of his voice involved his forceful and powerful delivery of technically difficult material.

Sunday Times Magazine named him the "Star of India" , November 17, 1996

His albums have spent more time than any other musical act including The Beatles and Elvis Presley in the charts.

Two of his songs, "Bohemian Rhapsody" and "We Are the Champions" have each been claimed, in separate polls, as the world's favourite song. Most recently, an Ericsson poll of six hundred thousand people in sixty-six different countries found "We Are the Champions" to be the world's most popular tune. This contradicts another major poll by Guinness World Records, which had previously found "Bohemian Rhapsody" to be the world's most popular song of the past 50 years.

In a list of the greatest English language singers of the 20th century, compiled by BBC Radio, he was the highest-ranked hard rock vocalist, having been voted at the tenth spot.

He also came in second in MTV's list of the 22 greatest singers of the past 25 years.

In 2006, Time Asia magazine voted Mercury as one of the most influential Asians in the past 60 years.

He was arguably the world's first Indian rock star.

He was also a Persian immigrant to India who immigrated to England...

Making him also the world's first Persian rock star.
