Introduction
[*]Acclaim Entertainment wrote:

For years Toy-Volt had been producing games and toys for children all over the world. Within months of introducing their first products they shot to the top of their trade. No-one could put their finger on exactly what it was that made the toys so popular. Sure, they employed the best craftsmen and designers in the world, but there was something else about them, something almost magic.

With their latest product it appears they have used a little too much of that special ‘something’, for the radio controlled cars that were about to hit the production line have gained minds of their own. Escaping from the shelves that held them prisoners they have entered the real world, and are now creating chaos as they enjoy their new found freedom...the Toy-Volt R/C cars have Re-Volted!

Re-Volt is all about fast paced arcade racing, utilizing the most realistic handling and some of the most intelligent opponents ever.

Not only that, but all this action-packed, state of the art racing takes place over some of the most unusual courses ever seen in a racing game. Motoring round museums, speeding through supermarkets and tearing round toy shops are all possible in the world of Re-Volt.

Features:
[*]28 different cars to find and control
[*]14 tracks set in 7 different environments
[*]Multiple modes of play:

Single race
Championship
Time trial
Practice
Training
Battle mode

Each mode reaps its own rewards!

[*]Amazing physics
[*]Stunning hardware accelerated visuals
[*]Advanced artificial intelligence
[*]12 player races over the Internet or LAN
[*]Re-Volt\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\'s unique track editor gives you unprecedented control over the tracks that you want to build.

Dozens of different track pieces can be connected together to create complex arenas for you and your friends to race around.

The Re-Volt track editor is the most advanced of its kind!

Now, their newest R/C cars really start to live! In Re-Volt, you take control over one of more than 28 R/C cars and drive on 13 tracks. The game features different single- and multiplayer modes. Imagine that all the coolest and most popular radio-controlled cars have come to life and escaped the store shelves. OK, maybe you\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\'d better not. It\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\'s a silly idea that feels unnecessary and tacked on in Acclaim\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\'s new racing game Re-Volt. Fortunately, the game is better than its premise and delivers some memorable arcade racing thrills. On the other hand, Re-Volt has its share of problems and ends up being only decent when it could have been great.

Strip away the bad premise, and the basic idea behind the game is that you race little radio-controlled cars around a series of cool and unusual tracks. Essentially, you get to drive these puppies where you wouldn\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\'t be able to in real life. You have more than 28 different cars to choose from (each rated differently for speed, acceleration, and weight), though most of these are locked at the beginning of the game. As you progress through the game\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\'s four championship circuits, you\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\'ll gain access to more cars.

The thing is, that person is not the trigger-man on Acclaim\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\'s newest entry into the Dreamcast market, Re-Volt. This pint-sized racer tore up the tracks on the PC earlier this year, and despite shoddy console translations on the Nintnedo 64 and PlayStation, early looks hinted at an impressive Dreamcast translation. So what\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\'s final verdict? Is the Dreamcast version of Re-volt as good as it\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\'s PC counterpart? Well, yes and no, but it is certainly entertaining, and worth a look from any racing fan. Here\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\'s the skinny:

Obviously, a key issue in Re-Volt\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\'s success on the Dreamcast would be in an area that all the other console versions fell flat on their ill-equipped faces: frame rate. The PC version roared along at 60 FPS on a high-end machine, and previous console iterations ran more like a slide-show than an actual game. The Dreamcast version, while slumming more realistically at around 30 FPS, is not exactly up to par with the PC version, but it\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\'s certainly nothing to scoff at. Minor slow-down takes place on many of the tracks, but nothing so disturbing that it becomes distracting or unplayable, and for the most part, these little cars zip by at a break-neck pace.

Youth was a time of wild abandon, of gauzy scenes rife with the simple pleasures of life. It was a time in which little things, like controlling a speedy RC four-wheeler by manipulating two little sticks mounted on a box, elicited the much sought after woah! Even better was when you mastered the art of controlling your little automotive avatar so well, that you could re-create all of you favorite scenes from world\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\'s scariest automotive stunt failures, replete with screaming from your mother, as the little bandit flew off your roof and killed many an innocent flower in the garden she was tending so lovingly. Sounds nice huh? How would you like to do that, whenever you want, without getting grounded for several years?

RC cars have long been one of the symbols of youthful, exuberant, good old American male fun (oh, and reading a Playboy under the covers with a flashlight after your parents have gone to bed, can\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\'t forget that one). Most of us, or at least the boys, raced the little suckers with wild abandon as children, gleeful smiles upon our faces as we rammed Old Lady Gladdis in the shins as she was feebly walking to her geriatric, musty car. Surprisingly, even though RC Cars are an important right of passage into the universal Car-Love that all of us, or at least the boys, madly possess no one to my knowledge has ever made a PC racing game in which you take control of one of these little scaled-down wonders and raise some racin\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\' hell. Enter Re-Volt.

The best way to describe Re-Volt is that it is a very realistic, true-to-life simulation of the sport of radio controlled racing, with all the fun gameplay elements of arcade racers built in. Confused?

Well Acclaim have managed to build a physics engine that is very close to the real thing, yet also incorporated all the best parts of arcade racers such as power-ups and stunt tracks. Ultimately, these two elements combine to form an extremely addictive and long lasting game.

If you have ever owned a decent R/C (radio controlled) vehicle you will know that the way in which they behave is unique. An R/C car behaves in a similar fashion to a real car, however there are distinct differences. These subtle differences are replicated with great accuracy in Re-Volt\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\'s driving model. Collision detection is faultless, with every surface of your car potentially effecting the way your car behaves.

Before entering a race, there are four driving modes to choose from. Junior R/C offers simplified driving for the younger/ inexperienced gamer. Console racing is fast paced with simplified collisions. Arcade is the default setting and offers well rounded R/C racing. For those who like a little more realism in their driving there is also a simulation mode.
