Alright folks, another one from Sierra. This is World in Conflict. I would love to compare this game to many other RTS strategy games out there, however there is a very big difference. This game has no base building.

This game is much more so a Real Time Tactical game. Played from the same camera angles that you expect from your average RTS, but giving you complete control over said camera, so you can zoom in to the level of a squad of riflemen taking cover from snipers in buildings down the street, or zoom out to watch your carpet bombing run level a town. All graphics are simply phenomenal no matter how close or far you are, and tons of the environment can be altered directly by you and your firepower.

Now, just because there is no base building, does not mean you wont get reinforcements, rather they will be para-dropped in at points of your choosing as you control pieces of the map you're fighting over. All in all this makes for a much different experience, as battles can be strewn across the whole map and your whole force is capable of movement and rapid re-deployment.

On to the setting... Imagine the Cold War, however instead of the collapse of Russian power structure, imagine them taking a bit more "aggressive" role and invading the United States with everything from battalions of infantry to tank columns to tactical nuclear weapons. Your mission is to protect the citizens of America in their own backyards. You'll be fighting in suburbia, downtown Washington D.C., rural fields, and more. The terrain is truly an amazing part of this game. Many of the units you'll be fighting with and against are very realistic representations of technology that was available at the time.

This game won Gamespy's PC Strategy Game of the Year award, as well as placing in their overall PC Top Ten list for 2007.
