Pentatonics is the second in a series of books which describe a simple and pragmatic approach to improvisation. While focusing on the jazz idiom, the techniques discussed are applicable to many styles of music and all instruments, be it rock guitar, jazz saxophone, or the solos of the fusion keyboardist. The system presented in this volume offers a creative way to incorporate pentatonic melodies in your solos. Chord changes are included for C concert, Bb and Eb instruments. The accompanying CD has been designed for use in conjunction with the text. There are 18 play-along tracks (tunes or practice progressions), featuring Renato Chicco on piano, Dave Santoro on bass and Adam Nussbaum on drums, plus eight demonstration tracks performed by the author on tenor saxophone.
I really liked this volume. I used it for upright and electric bass. Learning the scales was good enough on it's own, plus he includes some oddball pentatonics that are very fun. But I got a lot of secondary benefits ... playing these exercises on bass (they are mainly for sax) increased my facility up and down the neck and the patterns lead to finding all kinds of cool licks.
*** FYI I just noticed there are two files in this folder that I was unaware of. One is a single sheet of the song teen town by Jaco Pastorius a pdf. The other is a tiny file generated by the transcription software Transcribe!. It's suffix is .xsc. It is very small, 4kb. And is useless unless you own Transcribe! Just a settings file and not dangerous. If you have a client that lets you pick what files to D/L just uncheck the appropriate box. Sorry about that. ***
