General Podmailing questions
What is Podmailing?

Podmailing is a simple and efficient way to send and receive large files and folders by e-mail. It even works with ultra large files of several Gigabytes.

You just need to install our Podmailing software for Windows or MacOS X in order to start sending files for free. It is very simple because it works just like composing an e-mail.

After sending a notification e-mail, Podmailing transfers the file directly from your PC to your recipients using Peer-To-Peer. The file is also relayed through our servers in order to assure a fast and reliable delivery.

Then the file can be downloaded using our Podmailing software (recommended) or any BitTorrent client. As soon as the file has arrived on our servers, it can also be downloaded directly in a Web browser with a standard http download. So your recipients are not required to install the Podmailing software.
Is Podmailing a Peer-To-Peer (P2P) or Peer-To-Mail (P2M) software?

Podmailing is a kind of P2P software as it uses P2P communication technologies such as BitTorrent. It enables Podmailing to transfer data directly between its users, for maximum efficiency. But Podmailing does not have the usual drawbacks of P2P: Podmailing offers a high quality of service by relaying files on its servers so you don't risk being stuck with "no sources" for your downloads; it doesn't share any files from your hard drive other than the files that you send or receive; it doesn't expose you to viruses or malware as long as you only download files sent by trusted contacts.

Podmailing does not use your email account or inbox to store data. So it is not a Peer-To-Mail (P2M) software.
Is my computer/email/webmail compatible with Podmailing?

In order to use Podmailing you need:
A computer with a broadband Internet connection (duh)
Running Windows XP / Vista or MacOS X version 10.4 and above
Recommended specs are at least 500MHz and 256MB ram
Any kind of e-mail account and e-mail address

Podmailing is a tiny software which will work in parallel to your existing e-mail solution, without replacing it. The podmails you receive will arrive in your standard inbox, and the podmails you send will show your name and address as the sender (as configured on first use).

Podmailing is a 100% clean software (no virus, no spyware, no adware). It works alongside most security/anti-virus software flawlessly. The only known conflict currently concerns BitDefender and we are working to find a solution for this exception.
Why should I use Podmailing?

Do you wish to share your full-resolution home videos with your family?

or exchange a bunch of high-def photos from your last week-end with your friends?

or maybe you need to ship a big powerpoint, photoshop, PDF, or a bunch of CD images?

With a normal e-mail you will be limited by the maximum e-mail attachment size: max 5MB or 20MB.
Thanks to Podmailing, you can handle e-mail attachments of any size (up to 5GB with VIP access)!
How long do you keep the Podmails on your servers?

Files are relayed by our servers for up to 90 days with VIP access.

Thanks to our underlying BitTorrent engine, you can still get a file after it has expired from our servers. It will be downloaded from the sender and the other recipients if they keep sharing it. That's the beauty of Peer-To-Peer!
Can I use Podmailing to publish files on my web-site/forum/blog/MySpace profile?

The service offered by Podmailing today is not tailored for publishing files on a web-site.

But hold on it's coming! Stay tuned on our blog...
How can I install Podmailing?

How can I receive a large file with Podmailing?

Have you received a podmail?

It's an e-mail notification linking to a potentially very large file, which you can download directly in your browser, with our Podmailing software, or with a BitTorrent client.

Follow the step by step tutorial: How to receive a large file with Podmailing
How can I send a large file by e-mail with Podmailing?

You have a large file or folder to send to a friend or a contact and you're looking for a solution? You've come to the right place: Podmailing offers simple and fast transfers for extremely large files and folders.

Follow the step by step tutorials:

Limitations:
File names must not exceed 255 characters
Folders are limited to a maximum of 200 files
Do I need to change my e-mail/webmail software/account?

No, you don't need to change your e-mail account or discard your software. You will keep sending and receiving your e-mails the way you used to.
Only when you need to send a file which is too large for your regular email/webmail client, fire up Podmailing and send a podmail instead: your recipients will receive it in their regular inbox.

And when someone sends you a podmail, you actually receive a notification e-mail in your inbox.
Why must I identify myself to send my first podmail?

The first time you click on the "New" button to send a podmail, a window titled "Your identification" is displayed and asks for your name and e-mail address. We use it to show to your recipients that the podmail is coming from you.

This identification info needs to be entered only once and it can be modified at any time in the "Options" window by clicking on the "Change user" button. More info here.
What is the meaning of the green and red arrows which are displayed at the bottom of the application’s window?

The colors of the arrows are used to describe the traffic. The green arrow indicates the downloads while the red one indicates the uploads.
Large files by e-mail? But my inbox is already full!

Don't worry, the large files exchanged using Podmailing will not clog your e-mail's inbox or outbox, neither your recipients'. Podmailing transfers your files directly from computer to computer, without clogging anyone's mailbox.
Podmailing is compatible with BitTorrent, but what does it mean?

Podmailing uses the famous Peer-To-Peer technology known as BitTorrent to transfer files. This is a logical choice because this protocol is the most adapted for transferring large files, and it has proven its efficiency over time.
