Damn Small Linux (DSL) with Hercules s390 Emulator
This torrent contains a DSL distro remastered with the Hercules s390 Emulator, c3270 Terminal and netcat utilities. DSL 3.3 ISO was downloaded from the Damn
Small Linux site http://www.damnsmalllinux.org/. All three additional softwares were compiled from source code as follows:
1) Hercules s390 Emulator (version 3.05) source code was taken from http://www.conmicro.cx/hercules/ and compiled for a generic 80386 processor (in accordance with the Knoppix compilation philosophy).
2) c3270 (version 3.2) was compiled from source code found on Volker Bandke`s MVS 3.8 Turnkey CD.
3) Netcat was also compiled from source code found on Volker`s MVS 3.8 Turnkey CD.
GCC with libraries and the GNU-utils package was added to the DSL remaster. These were taken from the MyDSL repository found at http://distro.ibiblio.org/pub/linux/distributions/damnsmall/mydsl/.
The fluxbox menu was updated to include the Hercules Emulator and c3270 sessions (under Apps).

The purpose of this remaster was to have a standalone CD for the MVS community to play around with. I have used this CD to run Volker Bandke`s MVS 3.8 Turnkey system installed entirely on a USB stick. You can download (500Mb) or purchase the Turnkey CD from Volker`s site http://www.bsp-gmbh.com/hercules/.
The total size of the resultant ISO image is around 76Mb. You can, of course, reduce the size by getting rid of programs you do not require. You can increase the performance (and also reduce the size) by recompiling the Linux kernel (and Hercules Emulator) for your particular hardware and CPU. But, this distro is meant to be generic. So nothing has been removed from the original distro; only additions have been made.
