All my vinyl rips follow this procedure -

1 - Clean the side of the record to be played
2 - Clean the platter and stylus
3 - Check recording level (WinXP mixer and Cool Edit 2k/pro)
4 - Record complete side and save it as a pcm wav
5 - Use noise reduction then amplify the wav (if needed)
6 - Select and save each track as MP3
7 - Play the music
8 - Loudly
