The history of Zeno Morf: Zeno Morf was founded autumn 1987 by me, Erik Westerlund, (Guitar, vocals). I gathered some friends who wanted to play metal. We got our first gig 3 months later at what was then called Haugesund Championship in pop and rock. The band kept on playing gigs locally for several years, but was always set back by lineup changes due to musical indifferences, drugs etc. Late 1994 after the departure of one of our longest serving members Rolf Nymark (bass), I decided to take a break from the Zeno Morf name. We played for a short period of time under the name Corruption. This together with Jan G. Tangen who was the lead guitarist in Zeno Morf at that time. We recruited a new drummer and a bass player named Johnny Soerensen. This lasted for a few months, but again the lineup changed. I was tired of all the shit that constantly seemed to hit the band and decided that enough was enough. I decided to put the band on ice. This break lasted for about 8 years. Then I met a former drummer in Zeno Morf, Harald Revheim. He is one of the founding members of the band Thundra. He was only 15 years old when he joined Zeno Morf the first time. He convinced me that putting Zeno Morf back together again was the right thing to do. It took some time before I agreed, but finally I said yes. We still needed a guitar player and a bass player. We ended up asking Thor Erik Helgesen (Thundra, Throne of Katarsis) to join on lead guitar and I rang up Jonny Soerensen who I hadn’t spoken to in 8 years to play the bass. A funny thing happened, when I phoned Jonny it was his wife answering the phone and she never met or heard about me. So the message she gave Jonny was that a very angry man!!?? Had phoned him and left his number. After a while my cell phone rang and a very nervous voice said hello this is Johnny in the other end. The funny thing is when Jonny understood who was in the other end, and what I asked him to do it was like he had been waiting for this phone call for 8 years. We were back. After some rehearsal we were ready for our first gig in over 8 years. And together with another band called Mind Crime we did a good job at Borgen pub. This was the main place to play at the time. Hosting bands like Pagans mind, Thundra, Thunderbolt, Wild Willy’s Gang, and the Karmoygeddon Festival in 2004 and 2005. We did a few more gigs locally. One at the Karmoy geddon festival 2004, ended up being our last for a while. We then went in the studio to record some very old songs. We used the Black dimension studio witch is own by the bass player in Thundra, Stein Sund. We did the drum tracks fairly quick but then things started to really slow down. This as a result of Thor Erik and Steins obligation to the other bands they were a part off. We used a year to get the 8 songs ready for the final mix, before other matters started to surface. Our guitar player Thor Erik became a father for the first time, and we sat down discussing his future in the band. I told him that the wise ting to do now was to quit Zeno Morf. I have 3 children myself. And if he’s busy with his obligations to Thundra, and his own brainchild Throne of Katarsis on top off being a father, it would be too much. We finally agreed that this is the best thing at the moment. No hard feelings at all. He is one of the most enthusiastic and talented guys I ever had the opportunity to work with. Best of luck to him. I noticed that Harald the drummer was growing tired of the whole thing too, and he quit. Still great friends today. Jonny the bass player and I sat down and talked about new members. I told him that I would like to quit singing and concentrate on my guitar, but then we needed 3 new members. We found and old friend of us to take the other guitar. His name is Frode, and is a great guy. The singer also came in fairly quick. I ran into a big dude called Terje, at the Sweden Rock Festival a few years ago. He is from the same city as me, and of all things, he is a pro wrestler, so he was used to the stage. Terje had never sung in a band before, but we decided to give it a try and it worked out. Then the biggest problem occurred. A new drummer. After a long search we finally found a guy called Trygve. He had been a member of Syrach earlier. Then we where five, and had a complete band again. Up to this day, Zeno Morf have never worked better. We have had this line up for nearly a year now, and the band sounds great, are creative and good friends. We are older, wiser and more tolerant towards each other. We do this to have a good time, and to play live. If the recordings we did earlier will ever see he light of day? I sincerely do not know. It’s a little out of our hands at the moment, so time will show. But one of our songs has reached a cd. Buy the Haugaland metal cd from www.karmoygeddon.info. and listen to Global Holocaust. A song I wrote back in 89. See you around Erik
