Zarathustra was a Persian prophet, one of the great teachers of the East and the founder of Zoroastrianism, which was the national religion of Persia from the time of the Achaemenidae to the close of the Sassanid period.

The German philosopher Friedrich Nietzsche used the name of Zarathustra in Also sprach Zarathustra. Nietzsche fictionalizes and dramatizes Zarathustra toward his own literary and philosophical aims, presenting him as as a returning visionary who repudiates the seperation of good and evil and thus declares the death of God.
