The Roman Mysteries series are adapted from the books by Caroline Lawrence and make place in the Ancient Roman Empire during the reign of Titus. They detail four children, Flavia, the protagonist and the daughter of a sea captain from Ostia, Nubia, a slave girl from Africa, Jonathan, a jewish boy whose family are refugees from Jerusalem, and Lupus, a mute beggar boy, who solve mysteries and have adventures in Rome and beyond.

Episode One: The Gladiators of Capua

The Gladiators of Capua Part I
A sinister group of gladiators has come to Ostia and Nubia
believes her missing brother may be amongst them.

The children smuggle themselves into the arena to find him,
till Lupus is caught and put with a wild beast and Jonathan
faces the strongest gladiator in single combat.

There is a deadly mystery here - but can they solve it in
time?

The Gladiators of Capua Part II
Today is the day of the gladiatorial contest and Jonathan
believes he's facing certain death.

Flavia has disguised herself as a dancing girl, but that isn't
a safe option when there's a big political conspiracy going on
and the children have become part of it.

Can they save the life of the Emperor's brother Domitian?

Episode Two: The Trials of Flavia Gemina

The Trials of Flavia Gemina Part I
It's the feast of Saturnalia when all the world's turned
upside down with dancing and feasting and mis-rule.

An abandoned ship has washed up in Ostia - carrying ghosts or
monsters or who knows what.

And Flavia has another challenge when her father brings home a
horrible woman he wants to marry.

The Trials of Flavia Gemina Part II
Nubia tracks down the monster that escaped from the ship - and
discovers there's more than one monster and nothing is what it
seems.

Flavia's battle to expose her father's new fiancee as a
murderer gets her into deep trouble and finally, comes close
to costing her life and the love of her friends.

Episode Three: The Colossus of Rhodes

The Colossus of Rhodes Part I
Lupus narrowly escapes kidnap by slavers on the streets of
Ostia, but his friend Porcius and other children are snatched.

Flavia and her friends sail after the slave traders. But they
have a traitor right there on board with them and noone knows
who it is. And their quest is threatened by a terrible storm.

The Colossus of Rhodes Part II
In Rhodes, the children find the whole island is paralysed by
fear of Magnus, the mythical figure who master-minds the slave
trade. There are rumours that he is a giant.

The only way to save the kidnapped children is to get right
inside Magnus' palace and to get evidence of his evil. In the
end, Lupus has to tackle Magnus and his henchman alone.

Episode Four: The Fugitive from Corinth

The Fugitive from Corinth Part I
When the children's handsome Greek tutor Aristo gets a letter,
he asks Captain Geminus for urgent passage to Corinth.

Flavia's father refuses, and the two argue. Later that night
Flavia's father is stabbed and Aristo is seen crouched over
the body.

When Aristo runs away, the friends and their bodyguard Caudex
follow him. Only Nubia believes he is innocent. But if Aristo
didn't do it, who did?

The Fugitive from Corinth Part II
Doctor Mordecai has left Jonathan to look after Flavia's
father, who is gravely ill. As the others pursue Aristo,
someone else seems to be after them.

Also, the sightings of Aristo are conflicting. Only Nubia
still has faith in Aristo's innocence. Will she be proved
right or gravely disappointed?

Meanwhile, back in Ostia, Jonathan must make a life or death
decision.

Episode Five: The Slave Girl from Jerusalem

The Slave Girl from Jerusalem Part I
Jonathan's sister Miriam brings them a mystery: her childhood
friend Hephzibah, a slave-girl from Jerusalem, claims her rich
master set her free before he died. But now she can't find the
witness.

They need advocates to plead her case, so Flavia recruits the
young poet Flaccus and Lupus finds Floridius, a purveyor of
sacred chickens. But when the witness is murdered, Hephzibah
falls under suspicion.

The Slave Girl from Jerusalem Part II
Jonathan has been having prophetic dreams of the death of
someone close to him.

When Miriam dies in childbirth, his dream is fulfilled. But
there is no time for grief: if Hephzibah is convicted she will
die, too, and it was Miriam's dying wish that she care for her
twin boys.

For Miriam's sake, the friends and Flaccus must find the real
murderer and save Hephzibah.
