On April 15th 1989 Liverpool were involved in the FA Cup Semi Final against Nottingham Forest at Hillsborough, the home of Sheffield Wednesday F.C., when tragedy struck causing Britain’s worst sporting disaster. A crush in the Liverpool fans end of the stadium occurred as a combination of incompetence and mismanagement by various authorities led to fans swarming in, and in those days many terraces in England were fenced around. In total, 96 Liverpool supporters needlessly lost their lives.
Three fans - two supporting Liverpool, one supporting Celtic - recall the first match to take place after the Hillsborough disaster on an emotionally charged night in Glasgow when Celtic organised a benefit match on 30th April 1989 to help raise funds for the families affected and as a memorial to the dead fans and give the Liverpool a chance to play football again.
