This week the lovechild of Blockbusters and Round Britain Quiz pits a trio of chessmen (not a bishop and a couple of knights, but three earnest players) against three charity puzzlers. One captain collects teddy bears, for which host Victoria Coren has no response. This seems a wasted chance, given she's usually quite tart: "Connections get you everywhere, as I should know" says the daughter of the late Alan. But she remains a polite arbiter as one team trumps the other, cruising the Connecting Wall and romping through the Missing Vowels.
