Documentary series looking at the history of 20th century farming in Britain opens its leisurely trot through the fields of the nation by focusing on milk.

In the early years of the century there were 150,000 dairy farmers all milking their herds by hand and selling the milk door to door. Next came producer monopoly with the government sponsored Milk Marketing Board, and these were the good years for the industry as prices were fixed and profits guaranteed. In this time production rocketed as selective breeding increased the yield per cow by some 400%. However the good time couldn't last, and by the end of the century it was the supermarkets and their buyers who were in control, and the industry crashed to only 15,000 farmers.

This story is told through the home movies and interviews with two dairy farmers who survived tell the story of how and why the revolution happened.
