Glastonbury 2008 (June 2008) [PDTV (XviD)] preview 0

The Glastonbury Festival of Contemporary Performing Arts, commonly abbreviated to Glastonbury or Glasto, is the largest greenfield music and performing arts festival in the world. The festival is best known for its contemporary music, but also features dance, comedy, theatre, circus, cabaret and many other arts.

Day 1 - Part 1
Friday 27 June
7:00pm - 9:00pm
BBC3

Glastonbury is under pressure this year. Organisers Michael and Emily Eavis have had to defend some odd bookings (Shakin' Stevens, Gilbert O'Sullivan, the virulently uncool James Blunt and, most controversially, hip-hop megastar Jay-Z) and have been hit by slow ticket sales, but the first day looks like solid festival fare. Editors and We Are Scientists kick off with the Fratellis and Estelle to follow; lurking there might be preppy popsters Vampire Weekend, UK number-one single act the Ting Tings, or witty piano man Ben Folds.

Day 1 - Part 2
Friday 27 June
9:00pm - 10:30pm
BBC3

Edith Bowman and Zane Lowe continue with the live coverage of day one of this year's festival with live performances from The Fratellis on the Pyramid Stage and Estelle on the Jazz World Stage. Plus all the gossip, news and interviews from the first day of the world famous festival.

Day 1 - Part 3
Friday 27 June
11:05pm - 2:00am
BBC3

Part 3 is 2200-0200 live acts AND highlights of Parts 1 & 2 too.

Day 2 - Part 1
Saturday 28th June 2008
4:15pm to 5:25pm
BBC2

Jo Whiley opens up coverage on day two of the festival from Worthy Farm. With performances from Crowded House and James Blunt on the Pyramid Stage, plus Black Kids on the Other Stage. Duffy performs an acoustic and chats about making her debut.

Day 2 - Part 2
Saturday 28 June
7:00pm - 8:00pm
BBC3

Day two at Worthy Farm and the line-up is still impressive. Coverage kicks off with Duffy, Elbow and electro-pop outfit Hot Chip. Over on the main stage, Amy Winehouse will be hoping to improve upon her performance last year, when she tottered through a lacklustre set. Yet it's Jay-Z who will be the proof of the pudding. He's been blamed for slow ticket sales, as hip-hop isn't typical Glastonbury fodder. More conventional fare can be found with Buddy Guy, Ethiopiques and Joan Armatrading.

Day 2 - Part 3
Saturday 28 June
8:45pm - 9:30pm
BBC3

Day two at Worthy Farm and the line-up is still impressive. Coverage kicks off with Duffy, Elbow and electro-pop outfit Hot Chip.

Day 2 - Part 4
Saturday 28th June 2008
9:30pm to 10:30pm
BBC2

Lauren Laverne and Mark Radcliffe present from behind the Pyramid Stage. Plus a catch up with Hot Chip on the Other Stage and Buddy Guy on the Jazz World stage. Tim Westwood chats with Jay Z as he arrives on site for his much talked about headline performance.

Day 2 - Part 5
Saturday 28 June
10:30pm - 12:30am
BBC3

Zane Lowe and Edith Bowman introduce a live show from Jay-Z, one of the most talked about headliners in Glastonburys history.

Note
Due to a capping error, this jumps from the middle of Massive Attack into Jay-Z's remix of Amy Winehouse's "Rehab", and misses the intro and Wonderwall cover.

Day 2 - Part 6
Saturday 28th June 2008
10:30pm to 02:00am
BBC4

Buddy Guy/Ethiopiques/Joan Armatrading.
Mark Radcliffe introduces three performances from the Jazz World Stage. Legendary blues guitarist and singer Buddy Guy is followed by the Ethiopiques and their unique sound of 1960s, and British singer-songwriter Joan Armatrading rounds things off with songs from her extensive back catalogue and numbers from her recent album Into The Blues.

Day 2 - Part 7
Sunday 29 June
12:00am - 2:00am
BBC2

Day two at Worthy Farm and the line-up is still impressive. Coverage kicks off with Duffy, Elbow and electro-pop outfit Hot Chip. Over on the main stage, Amy Winehouse will be hoping to improve upon her performance last year, when she tottered through a lacklustre set. Yet it's Jay-Z who will be the proof of the pudding. He's been blamed for slow ticket sales, as hip-hop isn't typical Glastonbury fodder. More conventional fare can be found with Buddy Guy, Ethiopiques and Joan Armatrading.

Day 2 - Part 8 - The Best Bits
Sunday 29 June
12:30am - 2:00am
BBC3

Annie Mac and Nick Grimshaw look back over highlights of day two at the festival with performances and chat.

Day 3 - Part 1
Sunday 29th June 2008
5:00pm to 6:40pm
BBC 2

Lauren Laverne and Mark Radcliffe host as Neil Diamond performs live on the Pyramid in the now traditional Sunday teatime slot at the festival. Neil performs tracks from his recent No 1 album Home Before Dark, along with a selection of his classic songs in a 50 minute set. Plus Mark Ronson performs live from the Other Stage, a look at the history of Worthy Farm and an acoustic performance backstage by Will Young.

Day 3 - Part 2
Sunday 29 June
7:00pm - 8:00pm
BBC3

Organisers Michael and Emily Eavis always like to book a golden oldie for the Sunday-afternoon slot. This year it's Neil Diamond, a man who's become awfully hip of late, after winning a classic songwriter award at the recent Mojos. Headliners the Verve will also be out to prove they can still hack it, having reformed after a seven-year break. BBC3 offers something a little fresher in the form of Mark Ronson and young punksters the Pigeon Detectives. It's all rounded off with Radio 1 DJs Zane Lowe and Edith Bowman's pick of the top performances.
