Continued from previous episode: Den closes the bar early after Jan appears with the news that her dad died. As soon as Angie realises who the new arrival is she shoots upstairs and sits in the darkened kitchen. With all the tension at the pub, Simon goes home with Lofty to spend the night while John Fisher sleeps on the sofa upstairs at the pub.
Lofty talks about his childhood and his obsessive housekeeper mum who followed his doormat dad around with a feather duster. Ethel and Dot hear them talking and come to Lofty's room for a visit. Ethel says she thought they'd like some of her Jamaica ginger cake and the four of them sit around wrapped in blankets drinking tea and chatting. Dot goes on about what a sorry lot men are in general. She says a man has ruined Michelle's life as no man would want to marry her with a baby, which starts Lofty to thinking. Simon tells her she is attractive and needs a boyfriend. She says she never could have a boyfriend with her state of health and Simon makes the mistake of asking "What's wrong with it?" After the the old girls leave Simon tells Lofty that he left home and came to Walford because of debts (big ones!)
Arthur and Pauline go home to tell Lou all about the events at the pub and Lou wants to know what she looked like.. Was she tarty with bleached hair and too much makeup etc.. They tell her no nothing like that as a matter of fact she was too posh for Albert Square. Meanwhile, wide-eyed Michelle listens intently saying nothing.
Sue and Ali go home to bed and continue talking about the events at the Vic. Ali tells her that he wants to start a baby. Sue has her nightie off in a flash and wastes no time getting Ali mounted up.
Den and Jan talk until the early hours. She questions coming round and says she did because when she learned her father had died she needed him and he wasn't there. A few hours later, Angie comes downstairs insisting on having a private chat with "Janet" and then fixes her breakfast before sending her back to her flat in Knight's Bridge at sun-up.
