Thursday 23 May 1985

Lou wakes up screaming. Arthur rushes in, Lou calls for Pauline! Lou says that she is in pain and complains that Pauline is not looking after her properly. Arthur goes downstairs and finds Pauline in her nightgown, making a pot of tea. He suggests they should put Lou in a home so that Pauline can look after the baby when it arrives. Pauline tells Arthur that what she really wants him to do is get a job.

Next door, Deb's is still complaining about last nights fish and chips. Debs decides they need some exercise. Andy has one idea but Debs doesn't approve. Debs tells Andy she is going to think about it and they will discuss it later.

Lou is screaming again. Michelle comes into her room and finds her apparently unconcious. Michelle clammers off to Pauline and Arthur, Lou is now staring strangely into the distance, Pauline finds a half empty bottle of pills.

After Lou has settled down, Pauline rushes off to work, telling Arthur to leave a note for the Doctor, then to go and look for a job!

At the Vic, Angie comes downstairs wearing a big smile. Ethel is 'singing' loudly whilst cleaning up the pub. Angie tells Den not to worry about what happened last night, all apparently did not go to plan.

Debs comes downstairs, ready for work and announces that she has decided to put them on a high fiber diet. Andy does not seem too enthusiatic. Debs leaves.

Dr Legg checks Lou over and tells her not to keep taking all the pills, which have not been prescribed anyhow. He tells Lou she will live for a long time yet. He goes downstairs with Arthur and tells him that he should take good care of Pauline. He suggests that Arthur should try harder. Arthur says he is trying everything he can to get a job and begins to get emotional. Dr Legg tells him that he has to pull himself together.

Angie confronts Ian about the food, she tells him that it isn't working out and he will have to stop cooking lunches for the Vic. Ian accepts the situation graciously. Andy comes in, throws out a drunk who followed him in, and sits down to speak with Ethel. They discuss the general state of the neighbourhood. The drunk comes back in and Den throws her out again. Andy tells Ethel he is going to buy a bicycle, Ehtel thinks it's a good idea. He goes on to tells Ethel that he is going to sabotage Deb's diet plans by cooking the meal himself tonight. Tony comes in and sees Angie and Den together and walks back out.

At the launderette, Naima is telling Pauline about the car accident. Andy comes in followed by the drunk. Andy throws her out, he is convinced she is stalking him. Pauline is tired and sits down, Dot is late again.

Den is not happy, Angie tells him to brighten up. Den says that he thinks opening up in Walford was not a good idea. Angie tells him to be sensible and not too base everything on one night's problems. He should go and see Dr Legg.

Lou is sleeping, Pauline comes in to check on her. She goes back downstairs and looks disgusted on seeing Arthur sleeping on the settee with a can of beer in his hand.

Den is dressed up. He is going out to tell his ex-girlfreind to her face that he is finished with her. Angie tells him that he had better finish it off completely this time, or else.

Michelle, Sharon and Kelvin meet Tony. They tell Tony that they are going out, Tony tells Kelvin that he should be revising. Sharon keeps butting in with inane comments, Kelvin and Michelle are not impressed. Kelvin and Sharon run off leaving Michelle talking to Tony about his relationship with his wife.

Ethel is visiting, gossiping with Lou, she thinks something funny is going on between Den and Angie. Lou tells Ethel about her problems with the pills, Ethel suggests that she should take more water with them. Ethel tells Lou that her family are very worried about her, Lou does not believe it.

Debs comes in from work, shattered. She has bought the health food, Andy is not impressed. He tells Debs that he has cooked some pork chops. Debs tells him they are too fatty, she can't eat them.

Den is back, he tells Angie that he has finished the affair and does not want to talk any more about it. Sharon comes downstairs, on her way out to see someone.

Arthur tells Pauline he has had no luck looking for a job. Michelle comes in and shows off her new hairdo, done for free by a trainee. She tells her parents that she is leaving Kelvin alone tonight because of what Tony said.

Back at the launderette, Sharon is trying again to chat up Kelvin. She tells him that he should not bother with Michelle, she has much more to offer. She tells Kelvin she will go on the pill if that is what he wants. Obviously, she is offering him _S_E_X_ to drop Michelle for her.
