Old Lou is still in her bed and moaning how badly she feels. Since Pauline is putting in overtime at the launderette for a little extra cash, Michelle looks in on Lou and she rolls over to show Michelle the blisters on her backside. She asks Michelle what she thinks it is. Michelle is clueless and jokes that it could be chicken pox and gets her to let Doctor Legg have a look at her backside. Arthur isn't keen on asking the doctor to call on Lou on a Sunday, so Michelle gives him an earbashing and stalks off to make the call herself. Dr Legg says that Lou has shingles and gives Arthur a prescription for a solution to paint on her blisters and offers to drop him at a chemist' where he can get it filled. He instructs Pauline to have Michelle apply it so that she doesn't put the baby at risk of the virus.

Mary's dad, Chris, brings her some dresses for Annie and she lashes out at him for spying on her all the time. He manages to get round her and invites to have a day out with him, which she predictably declines. After Chris leaves, Lofty appears at her door. Mary apologizes for her earlier outburst after she learns that he hadn't told her dad where to find her. He tries to persuade her to return home with her dad and let them help her with Annie. She is dead set against it and says living there was like being in the army and not for her. Lofty says that he liked the army and that he knows about girls like her who follow the bands in their own style of uniforms.

Naima and Saeed are excited about Debbie's invitation to dinner and discuss what sort of English treat they might expect. Saeed says, "It'll be just like school lunches, only nicer." Saeed wants Naima to wear her best sari but she is "definitely wearing a skirt." Unknown to them, Debbie is planning Indian fare and enlists "master chef Tony" to prepare the meal. It should be interesting "Jamaican-Indian". Andy is late for the meal and Naima, dressed up in her best sari, let slip that "leg of lamb with mint sauce" would have been a treat for them after Debbie says she didn't want to bore them with a meal like that. The after dinner conversation ranged from "separate bedrooms" [Naima and Saeed] to "separate bank accounts" [Andy and Debbie] and ends with Saeed agreeing to teach Naima to drive at the urging of Debbie.

Sharon, Kelvin, Ian and Michelle have an afternoon dance party at the Fowlers' until the noise disturbs Lou, who is resting upstairs. Pete happens by and goes upstairs to comfort her. She is convinced she is dying and Arthur isn't back with the "healing solution" so Pete takes the teenagers back to his flat so she could rest in peace.

Angie tells Den that she will get shot of her bit on the side and go on the wagon [again] if he tells "that woman where she gets off." He smiles and nods. Angie tells Kathy all about this and is positive that Den is being truthful. Kathy urges her to tell her bloke that it's over face to face rather than by a note, but Angie fears hurting Tony and falters.
