Episode Information:

I have seen a fair few ways of numbering this series. On here we have the 60 Minute episodes labelled 1 - 3 and then the 30 minute 'companion series' labelled 1 - 3 aswell in their own right.

I have checked BBC Programmes and they have the series of 6 episodes labelled as i have listed them below with each hour long episode followed by a 30 minute corresponding episode. The episode on satellietes i have not included (see further down). The DVD release is a different method again with the 60 minute episodes 1 - 3 and the 30 minute episodes 4 - 6, but as this is the PDTV encode I thought it should be as BBC prgrammes sees it.

Episode 1 - 24 Hour Britain
Aired: 11th August 2008
On: BBC1
Duration: 60 Mins

In this first edition, the broadcaster takes note of how the supply-and-demand culture of modern Britain expresses itself on the landscape through all the invisible networks that keep the population warm, fed and watered.

Episode 2 - The City
Aired: 11th August 2008
On: BBC2:
Duration: 30 Mins

The first programme in this companion series reveals the transformation of Britain's captial city - London. Starting with amazing Luftwaffe aerial photographs of the very first bombs of the Blitz falling on a vulnerable city, this film tracks the changes that came out of five years of bombing. Comparing exhaustive footage of London in the 40s with the city of today, we see how great plans for urban renewal were stillborn and instead London rebuilt itself in an ad hoc way along old street patterns. The only exception to this was the dramatic city that rose from the derelict Docklands - where Canary Wharf had a blank canvas and used it to create an American style grid of streets and huge buildings. The City itself was faced with a squeezing ever more bizarrely shaped buildings into its confused medieval street plan. This is the story of a capital that has been transformed from a low-rise, smog ridden industrial city into an upwardly mobile, rapidly changing hub of leisure, retail and finance.

Episode 3 - Man-Made Britain
Aired: 17th August 2008
On: BBC1
Duration: 60 Mins

In East Anglia, Andrew Marr flies 10,000 feet above ground to locate a patchwork quilt of fields that produce a quarter of the country's wheat and barley. He also investigates how farmers are using military-style spy planes and GPS technology to monitor their crops, and faces his biggest challenge yet - a daunting plummet from an airborne plane in his first ever skydive.

Episode 4 - The Land
Aired: 17th August 2008
On: BBC2
Duration: 30 Mins

In the heat of World War Two, 300,000 `unproductive' farms were commandeered by the government and tightly regimented to increase their output. In the second episode of BBC Two's companion series, the show discovers how this intensive form of agriculture, which would later become standard practice, has shaped the modern British landscape.

Episode 5 - Untamed Britain
Aired: 24th August 2008
On: BBC1
Duration: 60 Mins

Setting out in a microlight aircraft, Andrew Marr explores the Great Glen Fault in the Scottish Highlands, discovering where England and Scotland collided more than 400 million years ago. In Northern Ireland, he locates an untapped vein of gold flowing through the Sperrin Mountains, and heads to the Glastonbury festival to explore the rich variety of cultures at home in modern Britain.

Episode 6 - The Industrial Landscape
Aired: 24th August 2008
On: BBC2
Duration: 30 Mins

The companion series draws to a close with an examination of how industry has affected the landscape of modern Britain. Highlighted examples include the legacy of coal mining in South Wales, once considered the backbone of the British economy, and Manchester's Trafford Park, which has now been transformed into a place of pilgrimage for shoppers nationwide.

NB - I have not included the special that was aired on BBC4 (Satellite Earth) for several reasons...

a) 'BBC Programmes' does not class it as part of the series. It sees it as some sort of special.
b) Its not on the series 1 DVD.
c) It was the only episode to be solely shown on BBC4.
d) It is not shown as part of the HD series which exactly replicates the BBC 1 & 2 and DVD versions of the series.

It can however be found here:
