Body Hits - S01E10 - Against The Clock (2003) [TVRip (XviD)]
Produced by BBC3
Dr John Marsden takes an entertaining look at the troubles we put our body through, and how it
deals with them. This was one of the first programmes created for BBC3 when it launched in the UK,
and has that "BBC3" feel of being fresh and young. In the episode about alcohol, the dear doctor
imbibes a little himself to make the point. Potentially an entertaining and educational show for
teenagers, and found itself distributed to the US and Australia. A lot of the programme guides show
the US airing dates of 2004, but BBC3 had it in 2003!
Unfortunately, I haven't got all of the episodes, but I'll upload what I've got, and add the liks to the others
once I have them.
Stress is an inescapable part of modern life, but its impact on people can be devastating, both mentally and
physically. The most common symptom is insomnia.
It's a vicious circle. If you cannot sleep, you get stressed - and if you are stressed, you cannot sleep. Body
Hits investigates the science behind sleep deprivation and stress, and offers some top tips for getting a good
What happens if you don't get enough sleep? How long has anyone survived without it? Witness how John
struggles to stay awake for as long as he can and discover what happens to his brain and body as he undergoes
a series of challenging tests. How will sleep deprivation affect his ability to make a split second decision on a driving
simulator and at a shooting range - and know he has got it right?
Imagine the torture of being constantly woken up throughout the night for weeks on end. Claire and Ade have baby
twins. Body Hits asks how do they cope, and examines the effect their new role as parents has on them - from memory
loss to talking nonsense.
Also featured is David, a stressed entrepreneur whose brain seldom sleeps. We observe his bedroom habits as he
endeavours to get some sleep, and explore the biology of his body's 'fight or flight' stress response. With no sabre-
toothed tigers to run away from, what does his body do with all the stress hormones his fast-paced lifestyle creates?
