As announced, here is my version of Star Trek's "Elaan of Troyius", the tv rip from the remastered episode shown on CBS last month. It is somewhat better in quality than the version uploaded two weeks ago here on thepiratebay. It's your choice!

Two new planets (Troyius at the beginning, and Elas at the end), and some quite good space battles between the Klingon ship and the Enterprise. For more details, go to trekmovie, where Jeff Bond has done a most detailed review on this remastered episode!

This episode is, as far as I know, the only trek show ever (including the later spin-offs) where the author also directed his script. John Merediyth Lucas (who also was a producer for Star Trek's second season) delivered quite an enjoyable story full of action, suspense, romance and intrigue. His direction is subtle and crsip - he was able to bring the best out of the main and guest actors! The story is somewhat reminiscent to "Journey to Babel", which also showed a diplomatic mission with a traitor on board who tried to sabotage it. This early third season episode (the second one to be produced, right after "Spectre of the Gun") had the first appearence of the new Klingon ship model, but the later produced episode "The Enterprise Incident" was shown before in the original run and got to introduce this model to the audience, in that case as Romuland warships!

In an interview Lucas said: "That was an original premise of Gene Roddenberry's. I enjoyed the love story aspect of the show and thought it was an interesting change of pace. You didn't get to do too many of those. Basically we were doing TAMING OF THE SHREW."

Season Three producer Fred Freiberger recalled: "Part of the reason we did that one was because the network had told us they had done a survey in which they discovered that women, generally, were terrified of space. They needed stability, they needed surroundings. They'd rather be in valleys than on top of mountains. So we tried to get the women, which is why we did a romantic story. We tried to reach a segment of the audience we couldn't otherwise reach, and didn't succeed."

Well, I don't know if the survey of the network was that representative of the female population in the 60ies. Maybe they didn't care that much for science fiction, but being terrified of space? Come on...

Okay, then, that's all for today, except to remind you to keep seeding after download, or I'll stop uploading my remastered episodes, so you would have to settle for dro316's torrents. Okay, so they aren't that bad, but mine are better!

- "The Enterprise Incident" (in the meantime uploaded by dro316, but again presumably in a somewhat lower quality!)
- "Obsession" (to be shown on CBS the following weekend)

All right, people, take care, and

Best regards,
