A 24 minute game summary of a historic game for Boca and Argentine football. On June 2nd, 1999, Boca set a new record for consecutive unbeaten games that was held by Racing for 32 years. On this nite, Boca reached 40 games unbeaten under Carlos Bianchi.
Bianchi had grabbed the team almost a year earlier and had won the Clausura 98, unbeaten. This same nite, River had lost to Newells 3-1 and was 4 points behind Boca. With Boca's win, Boca extended their lead to 7 points. In round 17, River lost again, while San Lorenzo tied ... Boca was back to back camps before playing against Independiente, with 6 points to play for the closer challengers. Ironically, Independiente beat the newly crowned champs 4-0 and cut their unbeaten record.
This was not exactly a great game, yet it marked the alltime argentine unbeaten record still held today. A Bianchi team that felt like unscorable against ... a team that would go to win back to back Libertadores Cup titles in 2000 and 2001. Beating Real Madrid in 2000's Intercontinental.
