China Smith - Shanghai Clipper (1952) sample frame from video
B-film tough-guy movie actor Dan Duryea played two-fisted part-time con artist/private eye William "China" Smith, who operated out of a bar in Singapore, and whose cases often took him throughout the Orient. Plenty of swash-buckling action in this early, but quite successful syndicated series, which ran to a total of 52 episodes between 1952 and 1954 as China went about his business, charming the ladies and disarming the bad guys with his smooth Irish brogue.
In "Shanghai Clipper" (1952), a geologist, who is returning to Singapore after a year of prospecting for new oil deposits in Malaysia, mysteriously jumps out of an airplane, clutching a briefcase with the only map of his latest discoveries. China Smith is hired to investigate, and starts by checking out two of the other passengers on the flight.
