Release Notes:

The brazenly bold act of releasing a full-length album consisting
of but two tracks is one of those things that permeate the
artistic defiance and creative genius ever so strongly present in
the band weÆve come to know as Moonsorrow.

The progression towards even more lengthy, i.e. epic songs has
been deductible from the past albums, but who would have known
that the light-heartedly flaunted ideas about thirty minute tracks
were not supposed to be surpassed as mere gibberish. Or
megalomaniacal grandeur, either.

This fifth album, opus, whatever, in the Moonsorrowian chronology
is aptly named: Chapter Five û Ravaged, quite clearly hinting that
the over-all themes of the music and the lyrics have not swayed
towards a lighter bearing. Quite the opposite, to be precise. Two
new songs christened, nay, scalded as Born of Ice / Stream of
Shadows and A Land Driven into the Fire weave tales even darker
and more oppressing than ever before in the bandÆs history. Do not
tread lightly into this territory, warns the music encompassing
the lyrical desolation, which in turn strengthens the feeling that
we are amidst a requiem.

As always, the bandÆs creative visions were ensnared in the fabled
Tico-Tico studios, under the guidance of Ahti Kortelainen in the
summer of year 2006. Lending his hand, or rather voice to aid his
fellow heathens, Thomas VΣΣnΣnen of Thyrfing contributed his share
of talent to Chapter Five û Ravaged.

To describe the music itself in other ways than cryptic passages
or simple platitudes is not an easy task. The two songs demand the
total attention of their listeners. Underlying themes manifest
themselves continuously working as a red thread, yet the songs
never become monotonous. The sonic barrage also has its share of
twists and turns, so that one is never quite able to catch oneÆs
breath. As one is about to be lulled into a peaceful delusion of
predicting the song, the auditory beasts ricochet once more and
continue keeping the listener on the edge of oneÆs seat. The more
delightfully folky times of MoonsorrowÆs music have given way to a
more shamanic tint of aural presence. This is undeniably an epic
heathen metal album of guaranteed Moonsorrow quality. It is at the
same time sombre yet solemn.

Savage, yet refined.
