Transdimensional Revelation Pure Lost On The Depths Of Me Again Will The Fire Burn The Song Of Earth Cry Of A Restless Soul Think Not Forever Highlander (The One) Deliverance The air is still as the storm approaches. All is calm and silent. Asthe clouds gather, few are aware of the power that will be unleashed. As the Earth braces itself, the clouds begin to part. For a splitsecond, uncertainty hangs in the air, only to be shattered by athundering crash. An immense bolt of lightning is unleashed from thesky. As the Earth is pummelled into submission, the bolt of energy ridsthe world of all things negative, signalling a new dawn of purity. Theonce Lost Horizon, is now found. My friends, the Metal world has been blessed once again! When LOSTHORIZON released their debut CD "Awakening The World" in 2001, few wereprepared for such an onslaught of expertly conceived aggressive powermetal. Hailed by many (myself included) as a masterpiece, thesebringers of positive energy have once again created a work of metalthat leaves all nearest competition in the dust. With the acquisitionof two new members (Perspicacious Protector - keyboards and EquilibrianEpicurius - guitars) these Swedes sound better than ever.
While "Awakening The World" was quite aggressive and a bitmore straightforward, "A Flame To The Ground Beneath" shows LOSTHORIZON expanding on their already impressive sound. The songs are morevaried than before and a little less speed oriented as a greater focusis put on progressive elements. However, this does not hinder theirgreatness. Whether you are looking for a varied heavy metal rampage("Cry Of A Restless Soul"), or an anthem that leaves you no choice butto throw your fist into the air ("Pure"), this release has it all.
An honourable mention should, nay, must be put forth for theamazing technical ability of each member. The vocals are nothing shortof amazing, the guitar solos and duels are razor sharp, and theaddition of a keyboardist has really helped to add new dimension toLOST HORIZON's overall musical delivery. The keyboards however arenever used in an overblown fashion, as they primarily work to helpcreate an inescapable atmosphere while also complimenting the guitarwork. Not to be forgotten, Preternatural Transmogrifyer and CosmicAntagonist (drums and bass respectfully), truly hold their own, toround out the incredibly unique sound that exclusively belongs to LOSTHORIZON. I could go on and on about each individual song but that wouldnot be worthwhile, as each song's brilliantness work to shape "A FlameTo The Ground Beneath" into the complete work of true metal that it is.
The lyrical content on this release is nothing short ofuplifting, as each song succeeds in evoking the warrior spirit in anyfortunate enough to experience this musical gem. While many couldsimply classify LOST HORIZON as Power Metal, there are also aggressiveand progressive elements apparent in this band that make them sounique. While originality in Power Metal has become somewhat scarceover the past few years, save for some releases, LOST HORIZON blow awayall competition, which is why they are standing tall, in a category alltheir own.
When the negativity in life begins to weigh on you like anunwelcome burden, look no further than LOST HORIZON for hope andinspiration. LOST HORIZON are the saviours, and "A Flame to the GroundBeneath" is their Bible. (Online June 2, 2003)
