Urusei Yatsura concerns the tempestuous relationship between two focal characters: Ataru Moroboshi who is possibly the most unfaithful, unlucky and lecherous idiot to have ever been born, and there's Lum, a tigerskin-bikini clad alien package of sex appeal, jealousy and electricity who's fallen for him. The series chronicles the misadventures of these two stubborn teenagers along with a veritable entourage of weird characters. Among these characters is the richest boy on the planet, a superhuman schoolgirl, a fire-breathing baby, a powerful priestess/school nurse, a cute and psychotic alien vixen with a split personality, a gender-bending martial artist, an alien biker chick, an ice queen of Neptune, a deranged monk, a giant ghost cat and hundreds of other lunatic personalities; aliens, humans and inhumans alike interract in endless hysteria in a town named Tomobiki.

Creata dalla mente della sceneggiatrice nipponica Rumiko Takahashi, Lamù ( titolo originale "Urusei Yatsura" ) fa la sua prima apparizione nel 1978 sulle pagine del settimanale fumettistico giapponese Shonen Sunday. Il successo di Lamù arrivò a circa tre anni dalla sua pubblicazione, così si decise di trasformare questo personaggio manga in un cartone animato di ben 216 episodi. Il successo di Lamù lo si deve principalmente alla caratterizzazione del personaggio, alle storie divertenti, bizzarre e piccanti, che riescono a sfruttare pienamente tutte le potenzialità dell'affascinante aliena dai capelli verdi. Lamù infatti è una ragazza extraterrestre bellissima, dei favolosi capelli lunghi color verde acqua, occhi grandi dello stesso colore e un fisico mozzafiato, messo in evidenza da un bikini tigrato giallo. E' caratterizzata da due piccole corna che le permettono di volare e di lanciare forti scariche elettriche.
