Orfano dei genitori, il piccolo Naoto Date viene cresciuto tra le ingiustizie e le brutalità di Tana delle Tigri, una potente organizzazione che gli insegna l'arte della lotta, allenando i ragazzi a diventare lottatori violenti e scorretti. Ma Naoto si ribella e decide di scappare via per costruirsi una vita "normale" ed allo stesso tempo allietare le sofferenze altrui. Ben presto, diventa il lottatore mascherato più forte del panorama internazionale con il nome di "Uomo Tigre" (dalla maschera che indossa durante i combattimenti per nascondere la sua vera identità), sfidando le scorrettezze degli avversari con l'onestà, ma diventa anche un uomo migliore, aiutando con i guadagni delle vittorie l'orfanotrofio degli amici di sempre Ruriko e Wakatsuki.
