There have been an extraordinary number of leaks and rumours about the sixth series of this behemoth of a talent show: Madonna is giving a masterclass, as is Robbie Williams; Louis Walsh is mentoring the groups - again; Kate Moss is lending a hand; even the identities of the favourite acts have found their way (briefly) on to the internet. But let's not get ahead of ourselves. We've got weeks of watching the talented, the deluded, the hopeless and the downright disturbed take their turn to warble in front of Simon Cowell and his fellow judges. And then be congratulated or consoled by Dermot O'Leary. There's been a much-publicised change to the audition format this year. Contestants will have to perform in front of a live audience, which will, according to Cowell, "bring new dimensions to the performances", although Dannii Minogue says it will "separate the ones who love the stage, the ones who are born for it and the ones where you envisage a trapdoor actually being helpful!" Now there's an idea for the next series.
