Epica - The Phantom Agony



The Phantom Agony est le premier album du groupe Epica.

Il est sorti en juin 2003.

Premier album du groupe mais faisant preuve d'une certaine maturité.
Le thème principal du disque est le danger de la manipulation au nom des religions.
Il est notamment traité dans les trois titres constituant "The Embrace that Smothers"
(à noter que les trois premières parties constituant cette série figurent dans l'album Prison of Desire
du groupe After Forever auquel appartenait auparavant Mark Jansen).

Epica est un groupe de Symphonic metal néerlandais fondé en 2002.

Issu du départ de Mark Jansen de After Forever suite à des divergences
avec Floor Jansen quant à l'orientation future du groupe.

Initialement nommé Sahara Dust,
ce projet aura d'abord pour Frontwoman Helena Michaelsen,
du groupe Trail of Tears. Au début de l'année 2003,
elle sera remplacée par Simone Simons,
petite amie de Mark Jansen à l'époque.
Ils sont ensuite rejoints par les autres membres du groupe.
Le nom définitif du groupe, Epica, sera choisi en fonction de l'album de Kamelot portant le même nom.

Leur premier album,
The Phantom Agony sort en Juin 2003 et est produit par Sascha Paeth
(producteur de Kamelot notamment).

Il est dit engagé contrairement à leur second album Consign to Oblivion qui a pour thème la civilisation maya.

En 2007,
sort leur 3e album : The Divine Conspiracy,
qui allie un son toujours autant mélodique,
à une augmentation de la puissance,
et un retour à des chansons engagées.
