Trama
Il dottor Corallo, archeologo, conduce per errore una spedizione di ricerca fino all'Antartide; questo errore gli riesce fatale, perché dall'acqua emerge
una creatura robotica che affonda la sua nave; di tutto l'equipaggio si salva soltanto la figlia di lui Maria, soccorsa dal Dottor Steele, che transitava
nella zona per collaudare una sua invenzione, la ipermacchina, una sorta di ufo.A bordo del mezzo del dottor Steele sono presenti anche gli altri due
protagonisti della serie: il figlio Terry e lo sbadato Gaby. Anche loro saranno di lì a poco attaccati: infatti nella zona è nascosta una base del
dottor Zero, un geniale scienziato pazzo ossessionato dallà volontà di conquistare il mondo.Nel corso della loro fuga, finiscono per caso nella perduta isola
di Atlantide. Neppure qui sono al sicuro, e, fuggendo, seguono antichi ideogrammi, solo in parte tradotti da Maria, e arrivano ad un sepolcro. Credendo
di attivare un qualche genere di meccanismo, versano dell'acqua all'interno della tomba, riportando così alla vita Fantaman, il terrore dei criminali, che
d'ora in avanti proteggerà loro ed il mondo intero dalle malvage mire del dottor Zero.
Ogon Bat (as Phantaman or Phantoma)had been discovered by Prof. Yamatone's family and a little orphan girl called Marie in a tomb in modern Egypt. The tomb's inscription
described him as a “god of justice and protector of the weak”. When Yamatone's family was threatened by Mazo, Dr. Nazo's main henchman,
Marie started to cry and beg for help. Her tears fell on Ogon Bat's body and re-animated him. From then on, he would come whenever Marie would ask for his help.
Ogon Bat was actually a protector from Ancient Atlantis, who was put into suspended animation in an Egyptian-like sarcophagus
(probably hinting at the pseudoscientific rumor that Atlanteans were the originators of Egyptian civilization), to be awakened in the future to fight the forces of evil.
His main antagonist was Dr. Erich Nazo, the leader of a crime syndicate bent on world domination. Nazo wore a black mask with Batman-like ears and had 4 different
colored cat eyes which could each fire a different deadly beam. He also had no lower body, and hovered around atop a mini-flying saucer. Nazo also had a metal pincer
in place of his right hand and had a habit of booming the name “LOMBROSO”.
