Antiquus - 2006 - Eleutheria [VBR HQ]
Genre: Power / Progressive Metal
Album review (at Metal Observer):
Canada’s ANTIQUUS is on their second offering, but first on a real label. These Canucks combine old school influences and flourish them with a modern production and sound as well as injecting a lot of power for an end result that is kick ass. Vocalist Jesse White has a strong set of pipes as he wails his heart out. “O Captain, My Captain” is a bombastic opener. Everything is placed just right from the mid-pacing to the riffs, rhythm section and solo.
The title track provides a lot of groove as you will easily be able to tap your feet to it, but there are also raging solos along with some double bass drumming to keep it heavy and real. Another well balanced track that will consistently hold your interest. “Meta Incognita” really picks up the pace as this one really moves and never slows down. The momentum is consistent on here. I found a lot on here to enjoy and the group does everything possible to keep it from sounding dated. It’s a fun little concept ride to be on and there is plenty of promise here. Old and new fans of the genre alike can listen without any disappointment.
