Mike Larock Biography:

Born June 2nd 1984 in Hull, Quebec (Canada), Mike Larock never really had it easy. Like many artists,
Mike had a rough life. His father was a musician but not the most respected
“My dad was never really there for me, it’s a shame because since he shared
the same passion I did, I never really had the chance to develop mine with
him since he was to busy moving from town to town because of drug problems.
It hurts but life is life.” At age 9, living in Ontario, Mike was moved to a foster
family for almost one year because of his mother’s problem with drugs and
alcohol. Fortunately, Mike’s mother like many other people changed her ways
for the better. When Mike was 10, he, his brothers and sister returned home.
His mother gives Mike an acoustic guitar as a “welcome home” gift. She also
considered this the perfect gift due to the fact that Mike was always a singer
since a tender age and music seemed to be a real passion for him.

“At this point, my soul opened up to a new world. I felt whole.” Mike, from the
beginning never had the intention of playing “cover” songs. “It always seems
that every guitarist and singer, especially the young ones, only know how to
play Metallica, Kurt Cobain, Guns ‘n roses…well you know same old songs
around the campfire.” So Mike was composing from day one. However he
never really had a complete song until later on. At age 12, Mike and his
family moved in Aylmer, Quebec where he was to befriend Stefan Mongeon
and find in him a devoted friend ever since. Stefan also shared a huge passion
for music, however he did not own an instrument for the first 2 years.

At age 14, Mike moved in St-Andre-Avellin, Quebec. A small populated town
in which everyone knew everyone. Despite the fact that this town was over
70 kilometers away from Aylmer where Stefan lived, they both kept in contact
constantly. At this point Stefan had received a gift for Christmas which was
a Djembe. This complemented Mike’s voice and guitar playing perfectly.
Mike first inspiration was Ben Harper. “Ben is unique. Everything he does is
different and it’s always a surprise. I love the fact that he is versatile, that’s
what inspires me the most.” November 21st 1999, Mike Larock and Stefan
Mongeon wrote their first of many songs such as “Life is life” which can be
found on the album “Mike Larock – The way”. During his 6-year stay in the
small town of St-Andre-Avellin, Mike had found love. “My first real love was
the reason I wrote “What did I do”. She had cheated on me after 2 years in
the relationship. I was so hurt that I had to write about it, and I did. It took
me just over 15 minutes to compose that heartfelt song.” Mike also had a
rough encounter with drugs and the night life near age 17. “From marijuana
to crack cocaine, I think I’ve done them all except taking the needle. I was
indeed a true party animal for a few years and music started to take the side
especially because of crack cocaine.” Mike got indebted with large amounts
of money and things started to go downhill quickly. His friends always told
him that he should leave town and make something of himself since he had
the talent to pursue a successful life. But Mike never really listened until the
day he realized that he was following the same footsteps as his father.
“To me there was no way I was going to end up like him, always running is
not the answer.”

One day at age 19, Mike called up Stefan and asked him if he wanted to
move in together as roommates in an apartment in Hull, Quebec to start a
band and a new life. Having agreed, they both started looking and found a
good place to start their new career. The following month Mike and Stefan
moved in together, precisely at 35 Frontenac street in Hull, Quebec. About
two months after settling in, Mike and Stefan started searching for a new
band. Two months later, they had a complete band with 3 new members:
John Charette on lead guitar, Eric DeAngelis on bass guitar and Luc Girard
on drums. After a few months of practice the band was feeling ready to play
in public for the first time. However they still did not have a name. After a
few days of thinking, on night proceeding the practice session, they came
up with the name: 35 Front. “Stefan made a joke and said we should be
called 35 Frontenac because we always practice in our apartment. So we
laughed a bit and I said, “no just 35 Front””. We automatically related to
the name and loved it.” After finding a name for the band, they were finally
ready and performed their first show as 35 Front in 2004.

It is then that he and the band would come to meet Claude (Chap)
Chapdelaine. Chap heard the last song that was played called “Same old love”
and instantly fell in love with their music and especially Mike’s unique
and powerful voice. He offered to meet Mike and the band at the practice
location, naturally they accepted. Chap went over to meet them a few days
later. “He saw that the equipment we used was very old, we had no sound
system for my vocals and I did not even have a patch cord guitar.” Although
Chap did not have much experience, he offered his services as their manager
and producer. Mike and the band were ecstatic as Chap kept providing
shows and equipment such as guitars, sound system and much more.
After one year, the band lost most band members. “At one point it was just
me and John Charette, we needed a new drummer and bassist and quick.”

A few months later Mike and John teamed up with John Lawlor on bass
guitar and Aldwin Albino on drums to keep 35 Front alive. They completed
many successful shows and even sold merchandise throughout that year.
However it was not over with the bad times in 35 Front. Aldwin and John
were not to continue as band members. For a while Mike stopped playing
shows until he could find the right team. In April of 2006, Mike and John
teamed up with Marc-Andre Dugay on drums and Mike Bilodeau on bass
guitar from another local band called “That 74”. Stefan at this point came
back on the team to pursue his career with Mike. June 30th 2006, 35 Front
played their last show as the “Band”. They opened the show for a famous
Quebec artist, Melanie Renaud. “That was the best show of my life;
unfortunately it was also the end of 35 Front.”

At this stage of his career, Chap offered Mike to sign a contract for an official
solo career. “I didn’t want to continue with 35 Front since we always seemed
to keep changing band members. That just doesn’t work for me, so I was
pretty happy to hear that we were going solo. Things have just kept going
up ever since.” That is when the album came in. Mike needed to find
musicians for the new album. John Charette came aboard and of course
Stefan Mongeon. Nonetheless, Mike did not yet have an official drummer
and bassist for the album and the following tour in 2008. Before the album
was to begin, Chap had to find the right studio to record this future album.
During Chap’s search for a studio, Mike received an e-mail invitation for a
band contest in Beloeil, Quebec. In the spring of 2007, Marc-Andre Duguay,
Mike Bilodeau, John Charette and Stefan accompanied Mike Larock at his
first competition ever. Mike, at the audition show finished in first place and
moved on to the semi-finals. He then won first place again and moved on
to the finals. He competed all in all against 80 very talented bands and
finished second place which won him 500$ cash, a trophy to hold on to for
life and he opened the show for “Les cowboys fringants (top selling artists
in Quebec) august 11th 2007 at the Festival d’?t? de Beloeil in front of more
than 25 000 people. Mike was also on Musique Plus to announce that show
“That show was definitely the best thing that ever happened to me, it gave
me a glimpse of what could be and how it’s like to have all those fans in
front of you. It was an amazing experience.” The show was done with new
members on drums and bass, Matt Ouimette and Tyler Wood. This was a
comeback for Tyler as he played a show with Mike in June 2007 opening
for “Les respectables” (Huge Quebec band).

About one month later Chap had found the studio to record Mike’s first
album. Studio Capital in Masson-Anger, Quebec. The owner and studio
director Martin Bedar, is a Felix award winner and Juno award winner.
Martin was also in one of Quebec’s biggest selling bands “La Chicane”.
“Let’s just say, I knew this guy knew what he was doing.” Martin also
offered to play drums on the album with no hesitations. “I was now working
with an awesome friend, musician and new brother which couldn’t make
me happier.” After many months of recording, the album is now ready and
will be available as of the month of March 2008. There will be a tour
following soon after the album release show.

This album will be composed of very different styles. “Like I said, Ben
Harper is the most versatile musician I know and respect. I want to be
like him, but also stay myself. So every album I will make, there will be
something different, you’ll never be under the impression that your
listening to the same song over and over again. From Blues, Rock,
Reggae, Funk, Disco, Power rock, Pop rock and way more…I believe
there is something for everyone on this album”

Mike has gone from a young confused musician to a professional. His
matchless and dominant voice will make you ask for more every time.
“To me music is what the world could never go without; everything I do
now is for music. It is truly my passion and my biggest desire. I’ve
worked so hard to get where I am, but I could of never of done it without
Chap, John and Stefan who have been there since day one. All I want is
to do what I love the most, and hopefully inspirer others as well.”
