The International Tactical Rifle Championships in Gillette, WY, is one of the toughest tests of men and their firearms. Two-man teams face targets from zero to 1000 yards.
I gotta say, my favorite part of heading up to Wyoming for the ITRC is getting to shoot out of the helicopter! I mean, how many times in the course of one's shooting career does one get to shoot out of a helicopter, unless of course, you're over in the Big Sandbox, then it's no fun at all.
The hardest thing about shooting from a helicopter is figuring out that "reverse lead," that is, you need to be shooting behind the target, and the speed of the helicopter will carry your bullets forward into the target. Also, helicopters vibrate like crazy, so I'm always trying to find a braced position, which usually involves having one foot on the skid and pushing back against the safety
