[TSE 015] Internal Story Info:

"Winters (WR I)" is a sixteen-minute concept ep that is the musical representation of Japanese medical student Hanabishi Hideaki's practice writings before he gets serious on his first novel.

But time is running out for young Hide. With graduation from med school coming in less than two years, Hide scrambles to write his magnum opus before his chosen profession consumes him whole. So in the great winter of 08, he starts this quest. By writing anything that comes to his mind.

Unfortunately, Hide is merely a spoilt middle-class Japanese boy raised in a well-to-do family and in a well-to-do suburb. So what comes out is emo diary-style drivvel. The same drivvel he's been writing since forever...

This EP, is that drivvel.

Well...

Part I of IV that drivvel.

[TSE 015] Artist Info:

Shorthand Phonetics (SP) is Ababil Ashari [vox, guitar, bass, programming]. Established in 2004 as a five-piece band, Shorthand Phonetics started its career as a Creative Commons license band releasing Creative Commons license works. Barely playing live, the original incarnation of SP concentrated on writing and recording "Fanfiction: From the Seriously Absurd to the Absurdly Serious," released on Tsefula/Tsefuelha Records to relative fanfare in 2006.

Immediately afterwards four-fifths of the band had to leave the country for academic reasons and the SP name fell to Ababil Ashari. Who by that point was a med student in a prominent Indonesian university Universitas Padjadjaran in Jatinangor, Jawa Barat. Ababil wrote new songs, devised the multi-album/ep saga "The Long Vacation", retconned "Fanfiction" to fit the new concept and started recording. The fruit of that attempt was "Apparently...I'm In Medicine / Love, or the Illusion of the Beginning Symptoms of It", released in May 2007. This was the first true "The Long Vacation" release. This released got the attention of leading netlabel Yes No Wave Music, who re-released it on September that very same year.

The next year, Ababil wrote and recorded "Fire! (I Could Have Died and All I Could Think About Was My Charred Diary)," released on Yes No Wave in November 2008.

Afterwards, Ababil immediately started recording the final chapter of "The Long Vacation" currently titled "Errors in Calculating Odds, Errors in Calculating Value" (2010/2011). But not before planning a string of seasonal EPs in the "The Seasonal Writings" EP series.

The first part of "The Seasonal Writings", "Winters Always Depress (Writing Practice I)" is out now on Tsefula/Tsefuelha Records through prominent torrent tracker site Mininova.org. The EP (and the series) is also planned to be release for direct download through Yes No Wave Music.
