Release Notes:

Jeffrey has this consistency to detail within his lyrics that
often make you ponder and contemplate the hows and whys of
what he's singing about. His live shows are normally
accompanied with his comic book artwork for visual effect and
overall performance icing, but with a record, the visuals are
physically unobtainable. It doesn't matter. The clarity of the
lyrics paint a detailed enough picture for any listener.

The album opens with 'Slogans', a track with a much larger
sound than previous Lewis fans will be used too. The Junkyard
are in full swing and the track cements a chunky stance for
the record's initial tone. The classic 'feel good about
yourself' Lewis lyrics are there, urging his audience to
always hold their heads high as he tells them, 'Everyone you
meet is not better than you'.

The chunky stance doesn't last long though, as the second
tune, 'Roll Bus Roll' immediately took me into a warm
beach-like aura with its numerous double track-vocals and
almost jazzy ukulele solos. It's a style I've not really heard
from Jeffrey before, but this album has several jazzy moments
which work perfectly.

'If Life Exists' is the epitome of appreciation for Jeffrey
Lewis's style. Granted, his lyrics hold the fort, but his
plucky guitar tinkles never fail to gel the mixture together.
As well as the obvious resemblance to his '12 Crass Songs', I
couldn't help but smile as he chants, 'It's hard to get too
bored, when you dig the right two chords÷. Perfectly sincere.

As previously mentioned, the album takes you on a wonderful
venture with an underlying happiness throughout. Even the
song, 'Broken Heart' is accompanied with ironic feel-good
claps. You'll be taken to hoe-downs, sea shores and gardens of
life whilst Lewis humours himself at the thought of going bald
and other life expectancies. You'll meet a Pig that goes to
Avalon and a Moocher from the Future and will no doubt come
away with a grin on your face at the tales you've just been
told.

As typified by closing song 'Mini Theme: Moocher from the
Future', Jeffrey Lewis still has that country style guitar
picking that we've become so accustomed to, but in this album
there's more. There are almost psychedelic, operatic swoons on
the record that resemble something out of Alice in Wonderland.
Quite fitting as 'Em Are I' takes you on a journey that even
Alice herself would be proud of.
