The Lonely Island (TLI) is a group of filmmakers, singers, and comedians founded in 2001 by Akiva Schaffer, Jorma Taccone, and Andy Samberg (aka the Dudes). The group was originally from Berkeley, California (Bay Area), and now resides in New York. It has created numerous comedic films, shorts, parody songs, and music videos. It has written shorts for the popular television show Saturday Night Live, most notably "Lazy Sunday," "Dick in a Box," "Jizz in My Pants," and "I'm on a Boat." It also made three full-length television pilots, none of which were picked up by a network.
The group operates a Web site under the same name that showcases the group's works and collaborations. The site also includes a blog from second-tier member Chester Tam, often referred to as Chez (pronounced CHAY). The blog, titled Chez Chat, gives humorous summaries of the site's updates. Chez Chat was taken over by Jonah Goldstein in 2007 and has his face pasted over Tam’s torso.
The three core members currently work together as writers on Saturday Night Live. In August 2007, the group premiered its first feature film, Hot Rod.
TLI released their debut album called Incredibad on February 10, 2009, on Universal Republic Records.
