Step Brothers is a 2008 comedy film directed by Adam McKay, produced by Knocked Up's Judd Apatow, and starring Will Ferrell and John C. Reilly, who last teamed up in Talladega Nights. The film was released on July 25, 2008. The screenplay was written by Ferrell and McKay, from a story written by Ferrell, McKay, and Reilly. Jimmy Miller and Judd Apatow are the two producers of the film.
The film has been rated R by the MPAA for "crude and sexual content and pervasive language." While writing the screenplay, Adam McKay and Will Ferrell decided to make the screenplay very filthy with a hard R rating, much more different than their first two film projects Anchorman and Talladega Nights. Kind of like a Judd Apatow movie, who produces the film, the word "fuck" and its derivatives are used 47 times in the movie.
