* Episode synopsis:-
"This week on Dateline, we take you to ground zero of the General Motors collapse... Detroit.
Earlier this week, GM filed for Chapter 11 protection - the third biggest bankruptcy in American history.
Reporter Aaron Lewis has been in the Motor City in the weeks leading up to, and including, the big day and found the city's Motown heydays are long gone. In fact, years of decline and neglect have made it the murder capital of America.
"Things have got a lot harder in the city. Whether it's because people losing their jobs, it's a war out there every day," says Curtis Reynolds, a Detroit local.
GM's recovery plan will see another seven factories close, and GM's former workers are facing deep cuts to their pension benefits.
"Unacceptable. Heartbreaking. All the faith I've had in General Motors in my lifetime I'd probably be willing to give it up for a nickel," says Randy Sanduski, the chairman of the retirees' section of the United Auto Workers.
Will this latest blow signal the death of Detroit?"
