Simon Underground - Krafty Radio Show 12/02/08

It's getting on for 1:00 in the morning and I've got a heavy day
tomorrow (no, today actually). Despite this, I'll take the time to pen
a review of this week's show that ended a mere 3 hours ago. Why would I
be mad enough to do this? Because I want to; it's tantamount to a
public service for the greater good. Simon's show makes Tuesday
evenings an absolute pleasure and tonight was no exception. Indeed, the
quality of the tunes tonight was consistently awesome. My ears were
humming after two hours of this madness down the headphones. Before you
know it, the volume level is set at 11 and it all comes to an end all
too soon. Sounds this good would undoubtedly be illegal if the powers
that be were aware of them. This is the cutting edge of Dance Music;
accept no alternative because you're being short-changed. Dance music
has become a travesty of what it once was; once upon a time, the whole
scene across the sub-genres was fresh and alive, and what have you got
now? You have Kiss FM and the Ministry of Sound playing cheesy disco
music which has got about as much to do with the spirit of '89 - '92 as
X-Factor has to do with talent. It's all bollocks. If you like Dance
Music, how can you be content with rehashed disco tunes masquerading as
dance music? Ibiza is a joke in bad taste. And Techno has become a
dirty word. Take a walk on the wild side; for sounds that stimulate
your mind and energise the body, look no further than Simon's show.
Enough of the rant!
For your listening delight this evening, there were any number of
choice quality tunes, so many that it's difficult to pick out the cream
of the crop. Special merit awards in the category of new and unreleased
material go to the forthcoming Evol Intent opus "Era of Diversion".
This is d8b-influenced hardcore at it's very best with my personal
favourite being a track using the sountrack to "Halloween" to full
effect. There's also some new doomcore worth watching out for by
Uninvited on Black Monolith Records; bringing the sound immortalised by
the PCD labels of Cold Rush and Dance Ecstasy up to date; mid-paced,
dark and broody. And the new Ladyscraper record forthcoming on
Deathchant is both quirky (love the cello) and banging. In the latter
part of the show where the chatroom loonies make their presence known,
there was a distinct emphasis upon tunes from yesteryear that have
stood the test of time. Nightmares are Reality by C-Tank has got to be
a good 15 years old now, but still sends shivers up the spine; play it
loud and you can watch the four horsemen of the Apocalypse fly
overhead. And then we had some classic sonic thuggery from Jack Lucifer
and Stickhead, Kotzaak mercenaries; words fail me. Oh...and it all
finished with a bang with the Fuckmasters; pleasant name and a monster
of a tune.
Accept no substitute - this is listening with attitude.
