Emanuel is a five-piece post-hardcore band from Clarksville, Indiana. They formed in 1998 under their lesser known name Emanuel Nice and appeared on four releases, before getting signed to Vagrant Records and changing their name in 2004. Since, they have released their debut album Soundtrack to a Headrush and a second album Black Earth Tiger.

\"This is the sound that sparks the fire,\" sings Matt Breen on Emanuel\'s debut album, and it\'s easy to see his point. Soundtrack To A Headrush is filled with songs that immediately burn into the brain, from the rampaging guitar histrionics of \"You Cannot Rape The Willing\" to the measured emotional pull of \"Make Tonight.\" The thing is, there is no specific sound to speak of - this is the kind of album that immediately sets off a game of guess the influence. Was that chord change more reminiscent of Helmet or Black Flag? Does that rhythm sound more like The (International) Noise Conspiracy or Cave In? Was that just an AC/DC riff I heard? Fortunately, the Louisville, KY band\'s unflinching intensity and Breen\'s throat-ravaging growl is distinctly its own. And sometimes that\'s enough to keep things ablaze.

This album is superb. From the moment That Hey Man kicks in and slaps you round the face you will realise what im talking about. This album cant be pidgeon-holed, if anything its just pure balls-out rock and roll, snarling screams and slick pop choruses held together by some undeniable hooks. Imagine Daryl Palumbo singing along to Recover and you\'re almost there. Stand out tracks are The Hey Man, Buy American Machines and The New Violence but this doesnt take anything away from the rest of the record. If you\'re a fan of Recover, Glassjaw.... if you\'re a fan of anything get this record
