Burnt by the Sun is a grindcore influenced metalcore band from New Jersey, USA. It was formed in November 1999 by ex-Human Remains drummer Dave Witte and guitarist John Adubato. Vocalist Michael Olender and bassist Ted Patterson joined soon after. A split EP with The Luddite Clone on Ferret Records brought them to the attention of metal-specialized Relapse Records. Impressed by the band's inventive, often humorous take on the metalcore genre, Relapse quickly signed the band, releasing a self titled EP. Their full-length debut, Soundtrack to the Personal Revolution (featuring second guitarist Chris Rascio), was released in early 2002, followed by The Perfect Is The Enemy Of The Good in 2003.

Witte and Olender opted to part ways with the group in 2004, leading to a lengthy search for suitable replacements. But, in 2006, both returned to a revamped group (now featuring Nick Hale, formerly of Premonitions of War, on 2nd guitar) to record a new full length for release in late 2006-early 2007.

The band's most recent effort is 2009's Heart of Darkness.

Burnt By the Sun has returned with the staggering new and final album Heart of Darkness. Heart of Darkness clearly stands head and shoulders above the band's renowned catalogue. Every aspect of this legendary band has been pushed to the limit: crushing riffs rain down like cement blocks, drums explode like gunfire and strident vocals howl against a modern dystopian society that besets us all, echoing the music's sonic sentiment. Heart of Darkness is both the heaviest Burnt By The Sun record, and stacked with the band's most memorable songs to date such as Inner Station, Cardiff Giant, Rust | Future Primitive, and The Great American Dream Machine. Burnt By the Sun saved their best for last.
