Story:
In the town of Trinity, South Carolina, tragedy strikes, leaving a young boy named Caleb Temple all alone. Loved by some, hated by others, feared by all and opposed by none, Sheriff Lucas Buck ("That's Buck, with a B.") rules the town with a titanium fist. However, when the Sheriff, for reasons of his own, throws all his might towards the goal of obtaining custody of Caleb, pockets of resistance starts appearing; the new local doctor Matt Crower is suspicious of the Sheriff's motives concerning Caleb and tries to hinder him in any way he can. Gail Emory, Caleb's cousin, hears of the recent tragedy and comes running to Caleb's aid - although even more than she wants to help him, she wants to find out what 'really' happened to her parents. Even Ben Healy, Lucas' deputy tries to defy him when he thinks his boss' amoral behavior has gone too far - but feelings of gratitude and fear keep him cowed.
But why is Lucas so interested in Caleb and what will happen when he is opposed? There is certainly something about the Sheriff that seems to be almost supernatural and one can wonder if the town will survive the clash between him and those that stand in his way...

Why?:
I really like this series; Gary Cole does the part of his life - sure he was great in Office Space, but here he is so deliciously evil it's scary.
One thing that has bugged me though was that I could only find crappy VHS-rips or full DVDs of this series. So when I finally got myself to download the full DVDs I decided to make some DVD-rips so there could be a small, but with good quality, version of this wonderful series.
This is however my first attempt at ripping anything other than music, so constructive criticism is very welcome.
I used DVD Ripper Platinum 4 to rip and also created a sample file for those of you that like that sort of thing.

Tip for watching the series:
Some series you can watch seven seasons in seven days and it works just fine (actually a lot better than waiting for a new episode every week, bah). In my opinion, American Gothic is not one of those series. Except for the first, and very last episodes, a lot of time (sometimes weeks or even month) pass between each episode and coupled with some inconsistancies and characters being gone for several episodes at a time only to appear again as if nothing happened - I think it is a lot better to watch only one or possibly two episodes at a time. Watch, digest... watch some more. Your choice though.
