Maria Luiza de Arruda Botelho Pereira de Magalhães, best known

as Mallu Magalhães or just "chiquita bacana", (São Paulo,

August 29, 1992) is a Brazilian singer-songwriter.

Mallu used to search for LPs in her grandmother's house and had

influence from her parents in her musical tastes. In 2001, she

received her first guitar as a gift and two years later she

began to attend classes. At twelve, Mallu began to compose her

own songs, the majority in English. "It sounds better", she

says. "I've always been shy to sing in Portuguese. Sometimes,

you want to say things that need to be darker". But she says

she is not too fluent, and always keeps a dictionary nearby to

help her.

For fifteenth birthday, Mallu wanted her gifts in money, from

her parents and grandparents. With this money, Mallu could

record four songs and put them on the internet. "Tchubaruba"

and "J1" were among these songs, and "Vanguart", a video. Soon,

Mallu became a success on the Internet, recording videos and

being interviewed by magazines, like Rolling Stone, and TV

shows such as Minha MTV, Domínio MTV, Altas Horas and Programa

do Jô.

Her favourite bands and artists are Beatles, Belle and

Sebastian, Bob Dylan and Johnny Cash, in addition to other

similar musical styles.

Nowadays, Mallu is a cultural phenomenon in Brazil, being well

known not only for its songs, but also for her polemical

relationship with Marcelo Camelo, former member of the band Los

Hermanos, who is 31 years old.





Maria Luiza de Arruda Botelho Pereira de Magalhães (São Paulo,

29 de Agosto de 1992) é uma cantora, compositora e

instrumentista brasileira. Mallu ganhou notoriedade no seu

MySpace Brasil e tornou-se famosa pelas músicas de sua autoria.

Em 2008 lançou seu primeiro álbum, auto-intitulado. Seus

maiores sucessos são Tchubaruba e J1.


Depois de muitos singles no MySpace, o 1º álbum, Mallu

Magalhães, foi lançado em outubro de 2008 apenas para clientes

da operadora de celular Vivo, gravado na memória de novos

aparelhos. O CD chegou às lojas em 15 de novembro com as

músicas:
